Solutions and workarounds for the "Gaea fails to start" issue surrounding certain GPUs.

We have been notified by a group of users that Gaea fails to start on certain hardware. While we do our best to test the software on as many different hardware configurations as possible during Beta test, the wide variety of hardware configurations out there often means there may be some outlier situations that we have not accounted for.
As of right now, less than 2% of users are being affected by this issue but we are actively working on a universal solution to address all hardware devices.
Gaea does not start.
Gaea starts but the interface does not show up. You can see Gaea.exe
or Gaea.Viewport.exe
running in the Task Manager process list.
Gaea will only start in Safe Mode by running Gaea.exe -SafeMode
or via Gaea Diagnostics.
Download the latest drivers for your GPU:
Intel Iris / Iris Xe / HD / UDH / ARC or others:https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html
If your onboard driver is from an OEM manufacturer like ASUS, MSI, etc. you may need to acquire the latest drivers from their site. Please note that some OEM drivers may be out of date compared to the latest Intel drivers.
Install the drivers and reboot your computer.
If the new drivers still don't work, download https://get.gaea.app/Release/Gaea_Hardware_Diagnostics_01.zip
Warning: Gaea must be installed already.
Unpack this zip file somewhere (NOT in Gaea folder) and run Diagnostics.exe
from the zip.
Run Hardware Benchmark
as shown in the screenshot.
Wait for it to finish and once scores are shown, send us the Gaea2_Benchmark_***.txt
file it will save on the Desktop
. Use the "Talk to Us" link here to send the file.
If it FAILS to run, then let us know that as well along with the hardware.nfo
file saved in the Data
folder where they unpacked the zip.
Run Gaea in Safe mode as described above. Go to the Settings, and disable all GPU in the Compute tab. Close Gaea and then start again without Safe Mode.
This will make Gaea run on CPU-only in a stable condition until the issue regarding your particular GPU has been rectified in Gaea.
Gaea is highly optimized for CPU and will give you great speed, especially compared to Gaea 1.0.
