Installing Gaea 2

Our new installer makes it very easy to install Gaea, whether you are at home with full Administrator privileges or in a restricted environment at work.
When you start the installer, you get to choose whether you want to make it a Portable installation or a Regular one.
This is like any other program. The application is installed in your Program Files
folder and requires UAC / Administrative privileges. The user preferences are saved in the AppData Roaming folder and an uninstaller entry is made in Windows to remove the application.
The Portable installation does not require any special privileges and installs it (by default) to your AppData
folder, although you can place it anywhere you like. All user preferences and program data is kept in the Data
folder inside the installation folder, making it fully portable. This option also does not create an uninstaller, so to delete the application you just delete the folder.
It is important to note that for improved security, we recommend using the Regular Installation as the UAC is meant for protecting executable files from malignant players.
We recommend creating a clean, separate folder structure for Gaea 2 EAP so it does not interfere with anything. Avoid using Desktop, AppData, Downloads, or other common areas.
When installing subsequent builds, do not overwrite old builds. Either delete the old files, or extract to a new folder.
Gaea will create a Gaea
folder in your Documents
folder. This will be the default locations for all files, although you can change this location in the Welcome dialog.
When you start Gaea for the first time, you will be asked to activate your copy to continue.
For mass deployment or administrative installs, see command line activation below.
Enter the license key you were given when downloading Gaea 2.0.
If you cannot find your serial number, click "FORGOT YOUR KEY".
If you get an error while activating your license, check "Try alternate route" and attempt to activate again.
You can release your license the license by going Help > About and then clicking Release License. Once a license is released, your activation slot is free and you are allowed to install on another machine. Or if you face a license issue, you can deactivate and re-activate the license.
If you have trouble starting Gaea, you can manually deactivate and re-activate from the command line.
Open the Command Prompt, Terminal, or PowerShell and go to the folder where Gaea is installed.
To activate Gaea, enter:
Replace <key>
with your actual key such as 6DFB-ADF33-J31AV
To deactivate Gaea, enter:
An active internet connection is required for both activation and deactivation.
You can also deactivate the license through the Gaea Diagnostics Utility. Run Gaea 2.0 Diagnostics from the start menu and select Deactivate License.
Next time you start Gaea, you will be prompted to enter your license.
